2020-07-22: Looking up the trunk of a Ponderosa pine east of Santa Fe
The Picacho Peak Trail is located east of Santa Fe with its origin at the intersection of Cerro Gordo and Upper Canyon Road. Ponderosa pines grow tall and wide along this trail. A nearby arroyo supplies the occasional waters needed to make this pine one of the healthiest in the area. One wonders how it escaped the axe of loggers years ago.
